This 1937 original poster by the celebrated French graphic designer Paul Colin was created to promote the Exposition Internationale des Arts et Techniques dans la Vie Moderne, a major international exhibition that took place from May to November 1937 in Paris.

The poster presents a striking and modern composition that reflects the spirit of innovation celebrated by the exhibition. At its center appears a stylized female figure whose flowing hair merges with a metallic globe, symbolizing the meeting of humanity, technology, and global exchange. Around this central motif, blocks of vibrant color—blue, red, and yellow—create a dynamic abstract structure reminiscent of the bold geometric language associated with modernist graphic design.

Paul Colin was one of the most influential poster artists of the twentieth century. Known for his elegant compositions and powerful visual rhythm, he produced hundreds of posters for theater, music, exhibitions, and cultural events. His work often combined Art Deco refinement with modern graphic abstraction, creating images that were both visually compelling and instantly recognizable.

The Paris International Exposition of 1937 was conceived as a celebration of progress in art, science, and industry. Nations from around the world built pavilions along the banks of the Seine, showcasing technological innovation, cultural achievements, and architectural experimentation. Among the most famous structures created for the event were the Palais de Chaillot and the rival national pavilions of Germany and the Soviet Union.

The exhibition took place during a tense period in European history, only two years before the outbreak of the Second World War. As a result, it represented both a celebration of modern creativity and a final moment of international cultural exchange before the coming global conflict.

Today, posters created for the 1937 Paris Exposition are considered important examples of interwar graphic design. Works by Paul Colin, in particular, stand out for their elegance and clarity, capturing the optimism and artistic ambition that characterized one of the last great international exhibitions of the prewar era.
