Renouveau - L'estampe moderne 1897

This refined 1897 lithograph, titled Renouveau (“Renewal”), was created by the Belgian illustrator and decorative artist Émile Berchmans. The print was published as part of the influential portfolio L’Estampe Moderne, a celebrated series that showcased contemporary artists working in the emerging styles of the late nineteenth century.

The composition is striking for its unusual vertical format. At the center appears a slender panel depicting a nude female figure emerging gracefully from a wooded setting.
