This exceptional original 1885 "Grande Fête Aérostatique" poster is a remarkable testimony to the fascination for ballooning and aerial exploration that captivated France during the late nineteenth century.

Printed for the Fête Communale de Neuilly-sur-Seine held on Sunday 5 July 1885, the poster announces a spectacular aeronautical celebration organised under the patronage of the municipality by the Union des Pilotes Aériens and the Société Française d'Aérostation, two organisations dedicated to promoting the rapidly developing science of flight.

At the centre of the composition appears the imposing balloon "Le Pilote", a cubic balloon capable of ascending to an altitude of 2,300 metres while carrying eight passengers, an extraordinary technical achievement for the period. The poster proudly presents this ascent as the main attraction of the festivities, reflecting the public fascination with aviation decades before the invention of practical airplanes.

The event took place at the Rond-Point d'Inkermann in Neuilly-sur-Seine and offered visitors a full afternoon of entertainment combining science, spectacle and civic celebration.
